Green Living For Our Planet

Throughout the world, nature is being increasingly impacted by man-made emissions, spillage and effluent, two of the most noticeable effects being climate change and acid rain. If only we could manage to exist without negatively affecting mankind’s home, the beautiful green planet, Earth. For city-dwellers it might look like a tantalizing mirage to think of breathing cool, clean air into their lungs, with no harmful poisons or toxins. The thing is, this is no longer feasible; we humans have guaranteed that with the pollution we’ve created we’ll be breathing in airborne poisons, which can impair our habitat and ultimately our health.

All forms of life found in that massive body of water, our oceans, which cover 70% of planet earth’s surface, are being ravaged by pollutants such as oil and chemical spillage, which inevitably affects us as well. For lots of people who earned a living from the sea by harvesting fish they no longer have a job because of pollution. Since way back in time, fishing has fed and given economic means to a large section of our population, all of which is now being taken from many. Still fresh in our memories is the Deepwater Horizon spill, which gave ample testimony to the disastrous effect of oil spills, causing the loss of many jobs and costing billions of dollars. The entire ecosystem was damaged through the large numbers of wildlife that perished, avian as well as marine, causing repercussions along the whole of the food chain. All because of humans and their greed for oil, with virtually no thought, except in hindsight, for Mother Earth and her many other children.

Incredible sums are invested in oil exploration when the money could be used investing in alternative green energy solutions or research into green energy. Green energy has absolutely no harmful influence on the environment and can still furnish a lot of energy for people. Given that the sun shines, solar panels, by way of example, can heat water and output additional electricity as well. And something that’s every bit as simple in concept, wind turbines, employs another free resource (wind) to provide energy. So long as the wind blows – and many turbines work efficiently at minimal wind speeds – a wind turbine will work, which is a neat advantage. Everybody should be aware that the time to put into practice an assertive green energy program is now, given the environmental damage caused by oil, and the limited supply thereof. If we did that, global warming plus the other ruinous consequences of pollution could actually be stopped, and just possibly reversed.

The first beneficiaries would be ourselves, and definitely our descendants in the longer term. We don’t wish our youngsters to grow up in a world that has erratic weather and horrendous conditions; we want them to grow up in a beautiful world where they can be proud of the planet and all it has to offer. Beginning to live green, in addition to preserving the environment, could be the only way we can ensure this.

It will be a tremendous and rewarding achievement to confine the harm to our home, planet earth, and it’s environment, but it will take time, much money and a substantial amount of work.
